We do not know who this is, but he is likely a member of the Thies family. The picture was taken in Parchim, no earlier than 1867. The Grossherzoglich Mecklinburgisches Dragoner Regiment Nr.18 was stationed at Parchim starting in 1867. It is unlikely that he is either Johann Friedrich Thies (b. 29 Jan. 1841) who sailed 15 April 1867 to America, or Johann Jochim Friedrich Thies (b. 6 May 1843) who sailed 16 May 1866 to America. I would like to verify that the uniform is of Dragoner Regiment 18, and determine if records exist for members of this regiment.
